League of Legends makes the leap to MMOs
Greg Street, Vice President of IP and Entertainment at Riot Games, recently revealed on Twitter that the company is developing a new title based on the entire League of Legends universe . News that a priori would not surprise, since we have already seen numerous proposals such as Legends of Runeterra, Wild Rift or the recent Ruined King, but this time it may deserve to stop.

My recent job at Riot has been to help develop the League universe, which we’re going to need!
Because it is time. My new job is to kick off a big (some might say massive) game that many of you, and many Rioters, have been asking us to create.

Como comentó de forma escueta en la red social del pajarito, esta nueva propuesta de Riot Games será ni más ni menos que un juego online multijugador masivo o como se suele conocer, un MMO. Es decir, un título al más puro estilo de World of Warcraft, Guild Wars y similares. La clave será lógicamente el estar basado en ese universo que a través de su MOBA ha conquistado a tantos millones de jugadores alrededor del mundo y se ha hecho prácticamente él sólo con el título del juego más jugado dentro de los eSports.
Lamentablemente, como ya puedes estar imaginando, más allá de la confirmación de que se tratará de un MMO no hay detalle alguno, ni capturas, ni nada de nada. Lo cual es un claro indicativo de que está aún en una fase muy inicial. Igual sólo están definiendo qué quieren que sea o cómo les gustaría que ofreciese a sus fans toda esa experiencia LoL.
Un futuro rival para World of Warcraft
La idea de ver un MMO basado en League of Legends resulta bastante emocionante para cualquier fan del género. A fin de cuentas hay que admitir que las historias creadas por Riot Games entorno a sus campeones y resto de personajes están muy bien hiladas. Y es más, ya el próximo título Ruined King: A League of Legends Story es suficientemente atractivo como para atraer a mucho jugadores interesados en LoL, pero a los que el género MOBA no les va.
No obstante, un MMO de League of Legends no va a tener el camino fácil porque hay un título que tras muchos años sigue atrayendo a miles y miles de jugadores. Ese videojuego no es otro que World of Warcraft, el cual ha demostrado tras el lanzamiento de su última expansión Shadowlands que sigue en muy buena forma.
