Mexico will host the first in-person League of Legends tournament in LATAM | Sports | America Edition

As of this Saturday, Mexico will host the first face-to-face tournament of the Latin American League of Legends (LLA), thanks to a three-year agreement between the title developer, Riot Games, with TV Azteca.

League of Legends closed 2019 as the most popular game for PC according to Newzoo.

“There were different sponsors who wanted to work with us in Latin America and within these possibilities the alliance with TV Azteca arises, which was the best opportunity we envisioned for the growth of the eSports scene in the future,” Nicolás Yentzen explained to Efe, Riot’s Esports Player Management for Latin America.

In 2019 Riot merged the South Latin America Cup and the North Latin America League to create the LLA. Its first headquarters was Chile, but the video game company decided to move the operation of the League to Mexico due to the agreement with the Mexican television station.

“Chile opened many doors for us, generated interest from many media, new sponsors appeared for the teams, the League had a greater reputation,” he explained.

With an investment of more than 2.5 million dollars, the LLA will have in 2020 the first exclusive stadium for eSports in the region, the Arena Esports Stadium, where from Saturday eight teams will play the Apertura 2020 to win a pass to the Mid -Season Invitational, the international League of Legends (LoL) mid-season tournament.

In the LLA there is ascent and descent, which is defined at the end of the year. The worst Apertura and Clausura teams play a promotion / relegation tournament against the National League champions that Riot Games has in the region.

Azules, which depends on the Universidad de Chile soccer team, was the squad that rose for this year. While Pixel managed to maintain its quota by defeating the Colombian champion, Mad Lions.

The LLA will be broadcast on the official channels of League of Legends Latin America on YouTube and Twitch, the Chilean television station ETC TV and on the digital platforms of TV Azteca.
