Epic Games has released a new Fortnite update for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X / S that activates the 120 Frames Per Second Mode. This is a feature highly demanded by fans and focused on improving the overall fluidity of the game. High frames per second rates are a huge advantage in competitive video games.
On Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 , the most powerful consoles, 120 FPS Mode limits the maximum resolution of the game, which goes from 4K to 1440p. In addition, in this mode, shadows have also been modified, image post-processing and retransmission distances have been reduced. The objective of these graphic changes is to increase the stability of the game.
On the other hand, on Xbox Series S, Fortnite’s 120 FPS Mode limits the maximum resolution to 1080p. In addition, the resolution of the shadows is also reduced, there are some graphic adjustments and the volumetric clouds are disabled. Another novelty of the Xbox Series S version is that outside of 120 FPS Mode the maximum resolution has increased to 1200p.

To use these new game modes it is necessary to have a monitor or television that supports these resolutions and frame rates per second. To play at 120 FPS, a minimum 120 Hz screen is required. In addition, it should be verified that the HDMI connector is compatible with 120 FPS at resolutions higher than 1080p, something that is usually lacking on mid-range or low-end displays.
